The Farm in Door County

Before Cherry picking in Door County, we took Ellis up to The Farm... scratching another adventure off the Summer List.

We were already 100% sure that he'd love it, since he just adores animals.

And, sure as sugar, Ellis had the time of his life.

I like a lot of things about The Farm, but my two favorites are #1 how clean it is and #2 how you get to interact with the animals.

I'm fairly certain there are few things in life more precious than a baby feeding a baby goat.

Also, shout out to whomever keeps up the flower garden... the blooms were on point!

Definitely put The Farm in Door County on your To Do List... it's still summer, after all!

#gardenlife, round 4

If you've been around for a while, you've read posts about our gardening adventures.  Our first garden, back in 2015 (and an update post) turned out better than I anticipated considering we basically had no idea what we were doing.  In 2016, we learned some things, and made a few tweaks to the garden (mainly, trying to get Grace to stop eating it all).  In 2017, we had a brand new baby and managed to still plant a garden, but I didn't get a single post up about it, because #NewMom and #NoTime.

Well it's 2018 & we're back at it!  This year we are putting Ellis to work, because that's why you have kids, right?  Haha, I joke (sort of).

Truth be told, Ellis LOVES the garden.

And, a few other pics I thought were cute, that actaully have nothing to do with our garden.

Ellis: Six Months Old

Ellis James, Baby Update - Six Months | My Darling Days

Last Saturday, Ellis officially turned 1/2 a year old.  I know I say this every month, but man.  How can he be this old already?

The day he was born -- that unusually warm, mid-February Sunday still sits vividly in my memory.  I replay the day over and over in my head, and still can't believe I was schlepping through the woods checking maple syrup taps with Zac one hour, and the next hour we were at the hospital, getting ready to met our babe!

This month, a common theme for Ellis is movement.  He's very busy.  Though he's not crawling, he somehow manages to get from one side of the room to the other by rolling.  He's always wiggling, reaching, touching, & exploring.  He's constantly fidgeting with his hands and kicking his legs.  He is never still.  Which is funny -- when he was in my belly I felt him moving all day and all night, and he's still a mover and a shaker.

Ellis also has a lot to say.  He babbles all day long, which is the best background noise, ever.  He also loves his toys and jumper, and is pretty good at occupying himself, but is happiest when we're playing and talking with him.

He also loves noises.  His favorite is when daddy does elk calls (which annoys the HECK outta me, but Ellis loves it).  He also likes to take his nails and scratch at surfaces to see what noise they will make.

He still doesn't have any teeth, so we were WAY wrong about thinking he was teething months ago.  I guess biting everything and excessive drool is just who Ellis is, haha.  And, we are currently working on sitting up on our own... he has a bad case of the wobbles.  He is however an expert toe sucker and sock remover.  He's constantly losing his socks at daycare.

We tried green beans as his first "solid food" a few weeks ago, and he HATED it.  He gagged excessively, his eyes watered -- he didn't want anything to do with them.  I'm happy to report baby oatmeal, squash, and peas have gone much better.  We are currently making his baby food from our garden goods, so that's been fun!

Ellis traveled to Minocqua earlier this month and slept basically the whole way there and the whole way home -- he was a dream to travel with.  Sleeping in his pack n' play on the other hand?  Not that great.  Under normal circumstances though, he sleeps at night in his crib a fairly consistent 7-9 hours/night, which we are all happy about!  Also, he has the best internal clock.  He knows when the 8 o' clock hour is near; he lets us know it's time for bed by getting irritable and rubbing his eyes & ears. I nurse him to sleep every night and it's one of my favorite times of the day.  I know I made breastfeeding sound not so glamorous in this post, but... I am totally going to miss it when he's older.

Things I love about Ellis this month:
- How easy it is to make him smile -- you usually just have talk to him.
- That he likes when I sing to him -- which, let's face it, clearly only sounds good to him ;)
- How he rubs my chin, cheeks & neck when he nurses.
- When he holds his hands out in front of him and studies them... he's so inquisitive!
- The faces he makes when we're outside and the wind blows his hair.
- How easy it is to make him giggle.
- How much he enjoys bath time.  If he's crabby, put him in the tub.  He laughs and smiles and splashes his crabby bugs away.
