Create: DIY Indoor Herb Garden

Browsing the web, I came across this lovely idea for an indoor herb garden.   I immediately used it for inspiration & decided we needed an indoor herb garden, stat.  I even added 'make an indoor herb garden' to my summer list.

I love the idea of being able to cut fresh herbs for cooking dinner, right from our kitchen table.  I also want to try my hand at drying out the herbs, to use for later.

Here's how we made our indoor herb garden...

Supplies

- Various sized soup cans  -- we used all the same size
- Seeds -- we planted basil, parsley, & oregano since those are the herbs that we use the most
- Large terra-cotta saucer
- River rock
- Potting soil
- Hammer
- Nail
- Ribbon
- Card stock

To begin, remove the labels from your soup cans & make sure they are washed well.

Then flip the cans over & put several drainage holes in the bottoms of the cans with the hammer & nail.

*make sure your dog is supervising...

Next, fill the cans up about an inch or so with small river rock or pebbles.  Honestly, I grabbed some stones from the landscaping around our house & they worked swell!

Fill the cans with potting soil, but leave about an inch or two of space at the top.

Next, plant your seeds & give them a sprinkling of water.

Now comes the fun part... arrange your cans in the terra-cotta saucer & adorn them with ribbon & labels.

Water every few days & watch your herbs grow!

This is such an easy & budget friendly DIY... and, it makes for a great center piece on your kitchen table!

Happy Sunday.

Kelle posted 48 examples about how to capture water fun this summer... she has quite the eye for composition.

Have you heard about capsule wardrobes?  How do you feel about them?  I know I would never have the guts to get rid of 2/3 of my current wardrobe, but Lindsay shared how she simplified her wardrobe & it's quite inspiring!

We recently purchased a home-made popsicle mold kit, and I can't wait to try out these recipes!

Megan, a fellow chick with curly locks, shared her process here.  Ive tried DevaCurl before but wasn't impressed (maybe I didn't do it right?)... have you tried this product? And if so, what are your thoughts?

#gardenlife

So I title this post like I'm an avid gardener.  This couldn't be farther from the truth.

I've always had lofty goals of having a beautiful garden... of actually eating vegetables, on a daily basis... of wearing a garden hat & caring for my beloved plants.  And for the neighbors to be like "Oh!  Have you seen their garden?!"

So, I bought a pair of garden gloves & we planted a garden.

My husband did a majority of the work.  He rented a sod cutter & crafted out a small rectangle in our yard that would become Our First Garden.

We decided to keep it small this year.  This is our first go at a garden & in all honestly, it could totally flop, though I'm hoping it doesn't.

Next, we purchased a soil test & pretended we were scientists... turns out our soil is on point!

We shopped at a local greenhouse, Lindsley's Greenhouse, and purchased a variety of seeds & plants.
Zac did most of the planting; I mainly played with the dog & took photos -- that's what I do best.

We are hopeful for a great growing season & look forward to eating the fruits of our labor.

If anybody has gardening tips, throw them my way would ya?

Happy Sunday.
